Dissolution vs Divorce

In Ohio, there are a couple of different ways that a marriage can be ended. One way is by “dissolution” and the other is by “divorce.” Below you will find some information about the differences between the two.

Dissolution

  • In a dissolution, both partners agree on all terms of the divorce
  • Unless total agreement is present, this may be stressful and a waste of option for many individuals
  • Contrary to popular belief, dissolutions are often not a cheap and quick way to obtain a divorce, but can actually be very expensive

Divorce

  • Can be “at fault” or “no fault”
  • “At fault” divorces includes cases of abuse, cheating, neglect, or abandonment
  • “No fault” divorces includes cases where neither partner blames the other

While some people are able to have amicable divorces, others become heated and complex, sometimes leading to trials or hearings. At Patituce & Associates Cleveland Divorce Lawyers, our goal is to help you through this difficult, emotional, and exhausting process.
